JP4 Still Planned for Filming Next Summer
With the lack of JP4-related news recently, one might think that Universal has decided to delay filming the next installment in everyone's favorite dino franchise. Not so says a guide for Hawaii Movie Tours, who told 'Vader' on a recent trip to Kauai that "JP4 is shooting here next summer, at the same time as Indiana Jones 4." The guide also said something else interesting -- that Kathleen Kennedy, longtime Spielberg producer, would be directing. Most JP fans probably find this as crazy as I, so I contacted head-honcho Bob from HMT, who indeed confirmed that the guide must have misspoke. "That is the strangest thing I have ever heard," Bob says. "Our guides shouldn't be saying anything concrete about JP4 other than there are rumors on the island of them coming next September."

Semi-Sorta-Not-Really Related News Bites
Haven't updated in awhile, so here's some interesting semi-sorta-not-really related news, in patented bulleted list(tm) format:
- JP fans who thought TLW's idea of hunting dinosaurs might be interested in Dinosaur Hunting, an upcoming Xbox game. It's due out in February.
- Discovery Channel is prepping their latest in their apparent never-ending series of dinosaur-related specials, this one called Dinosaur Planet. This time the schtick is that they follow four individual dinosaurs (they even give them names) as they struggle to survive. It begins next Sunday (the 14th) at 8pm.
- Wonder what Spielberg is up to these days? Apparnetly making more mini-series, says this article about "Nine Lives", "an epic story of love, death, and beyond".
- Looking for a cheap stocking-stuffer (or menorah, uh.. stuffer)? Best Buy has Operation Genesis for PS2 for a measly $20.
- JurassicIsland.ch has a JP Memory Game that's fun for the whole family...
- Grand Theft Auto: Isla Nublar, is.. well, interesting. :)
- Razzie has another of her world-famous standee's online, this one a replica of JP's Visitor Center.

We've Got Dodgson Here
Not really news per-se, but I ocassionally get emails from people asking what perpetual fan favorite Lewis Dodgson (aka Cameron Thor) is doing recently. Thankfully, Mr. Thor has been responding to a few emails as of late, commenting to 'SeanArcher' that while he originally talked to Spielberg about possibly playing a role in TLW, in the end he wasn't needed. Here's what he had to say to Sean and if he'd been approached about JP4:
"Thank you for your kind words. I work now as a
director and a teacher. As much as I loved acting I
have truly found my calling and it leaves very little
time to reprise my acting career. In my work as a
coach I show up once and a while in a role if the
director thinks it might be funny - you can see me
getting shot to pieces in Wind talkers in the first
five minutes - John thought that was hilarious. I
don't know anything abut JP4. I ran into Steven at a
movie just after JP1 came out and he told me that
Dodgson was all over The Lost World, I said, "cool"
but hoped we could avoid the whole hurricane thing
that ripped up JP1. In the end Lost World didn't need
Dodgson because the monsters were a lot cooler than
anything that Dodgson had to say. Movies are like
that; we favor things that move, not that talk. I'm
sure Steven will play out the JP franchise as long as
he can. When he first told me about it I was playing a
small part in Hook and he was all into getting th
dinosaurs to work right - he's like a big kid with
multi-million dollar toys - so my guess is you'll see
JP's as long as Steven is having fun.
It's a kick to know that JP fans are out there, (it's
a great movie) and a real pleasure to talk to you.
Good luck on your movie, it's the coolest thing in the
world to do, have fun doing it!
You gotta admit it'd be a cool tip-o-the-hat to the fans for good ol' Lewis to appear in JP4, even in the background or something.

Horner Says JP4 Will Have Dino-People?!
Could JP4 touch on the subject of alternative evolution, and what would of happened if humans somehow took on dinosaur traits? It sure sounds weird, and Jack Horner's mysterious answer to a caller on a recent Minnesota Public Radio show leaves much open for interpretation.. But here's exactly what was said:
David from Richfield: This conversation got me thinking about grade school.. and I remember in one of my science books that there was a discussion and a picture of what man would look like if we had evolved from dinosaurs instead of mammals. And I'm wondering if any more thought had been given to that and if that was really true and if that would be a possibility? Why did mammals succeed over dinosaurs?
Horner: Well that's actually a really good question, and of course the non-avian dinosaurs went extinct because of what we think of as some really catastrophic event. But just to sort of whet your appetite about that, I would say, keep thinking about that, and in a couple of years go see Jurassic Park 4.
Host: (laughing) What mischief have you been up to?
I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't just listened to the interview.. you can do so yourself at MPR.org (the question comes at 35:00 but the whole thing is pretty interesting). Thanks Countingdown.com and 'MoviFreak88'.

Horner Says Raptors Large Part of JP4
Some interesting news from the always tight-lipped Jack Horner this evening, who apparently let slip a tidbit of info during a recent chat with kids in Montana. According to the Billings Gazette, besides going over his theories about the T.rex being a scavenger, he told the audience that he is indeed working with Spielberg once again on the next film, and that "If you like velociraptors, you will love Jurassic Park Four." New JP-related Game Spotted in Japan
Not sure why, but it seems Japan is getting all the new Juassic Park stuff these days related to the JP Institute, the so-called "educational arm" of the Jurassic Park franchise that started in 2001. Earlier this year, for instance, the JP Institute Tour started in Tokyo, Japan, and now Tim sends word of a tie-in game for the GBA. Not much is known about this game save these screenshots, though it looks like a pretty generic kiddie title with cool JP images:

Attenborough Set for JP4?
Could John Hammond have signed on for another trip to JP? Don't get too excited just yet until we've heard confirmation, but AICN has a story up with a source claiming that during an interview on BBC 5 radio Richard Attenborough indeed mentioned Spielberg contacted to ask about JP4, "which Sir Richard said he would do". Anyone out there hear this radio show? (Thanks tobycompy2.0)

Knightley Not in JP4
Personally I never really gave this rumor much attention, but those of you who were anxiously hoping that up-and-comer UK hottie Keira Knightley would be involved in JP4 are in for some bad news: According to KK fansite KK Wavefront, Knightley's agent confirmed that she would not be working on the film. Of course, we'll probably never know whether or not she was actually considering the role, or if the whole thing was just a load of bull-honkey. (Thanks InGenOps)

Review of Monahan's "Tripoli" Script
When William Monahan was announced as JP4's screenwriter last November, much of the JP community let out a collective "Who?!". Now more info is coming out on Monahan's film projects in the works before he signed on for JP4, including a first look at his big-budget script for Ridley Scott called Tripoli. According to Filmforce.IGN.com, the script is a "historical epic set against the backdrop of the Barbary Wars. It focuses on U. S. naval agent to the Barbary States William Eaton's (Russell Crowe) military and diplomatic campaign to restore Hamet Karamanli ([Ben] Kingsley?), the rightful but exiled Bashaw of Tripoli, to power in order to curb the piracy by Barbary corsairs against American merchant and military vessels." Like many films as of late, Tripoli is a "highly fictionalized" account of a real event, though IGN observes that Monahan may have taken some large poetic licenses. In fact, IGN says, the film seems almost like a "response to America's post-9/11 war in Afghanistan than anything else", and that "Hamet Karamanli reminded me of Hamid Karzai, the American-approved president of Afghanistan." And speaking of Afghanistan, it seems to be a favorite subject of Monahan: IGN also reports that Monahan has signed on to pen a script based on the 2001 Afghanistan war entitled Mazar i Sharif, about the battle for the Afghan city where US Special Ops helped oust the Taliban from power. With all these war movies on Monahan's plate, one wonders what we'll see in his JP4 script.... (Thanks 'Evilgrinch')

First Timeline Review
Crichton fans might be interested to read the first review of a preview screening of Richard Donner's upcoming "Timeline", due for release in November. Unfortunately, AICN's 'Mr. Beaks' declares the film "terrible", and "doomed... 'Dreamcatcher' doomed". "It probably would’ve been more entertaining to light a cauldron of $80 million ablaze on the Paramount lot," Beaks says. Update: Apparently this is not the first test screening report to be sent into AICN.. a few were posted back in 2002, here, here, and here. Looks like they haven't fixed much in that time.... New Horner T-Rex Exhibit
This Reuters story details the opening of a new T-Rex exhibit at London's Natural History Museum, which urges visitors to think about the age old debate over whether the T-Rex was a scavanger or merciless killer. "Everything says this dinosaur lived on dead meat," JP's Jack Horner said at the exhibits' opening ceremonies. "Even statistically we find that plant-eating dinosaurs were far more common than predators, and T-Rex is the second most common dinosaur."
