Before becoming a director, JP3 director Joe Johnston had a long career as art director on several films, including the Star Wars trilogy, where he helped give designs a 'worn-out look'.

Upon seeing the film the other night, the first time in years, I have actually realized how terrible the film actually is. It was too short, had a weak plot, and seemed too kiddy and clichéd at times. The only thing keeping the film intact was the fact that Sam Niel and Laura Dern made a comeback. Though I did like the new additions like Ceratasaurus and Pteranadon, I think that Spinosaurus was a bit exagerated seeing that noone really knows what it truely looked like to begin with due to the only known fossils being destroyed in the bombings of north Africa in WWII. (Not to mentinon that Tyrannosaurus Rex is the TRUE icon of the movie and seeing it killed so easily really pissed me off) I also didn't understand the fact that the animals seemed to change in color since the second film. If I remember correctly, the Velociraptors were more of an orange tint with black stripes, not the grey and blue with feathers (males, although the film did say that it was matching scientific evidence, bear with me on this) and the white and black with red eye sockets. (females) The Tyrannosaurus, (Weren't there three in the last film?) was grey with no markings, yet was green with black stripes in this film. And if I remember, Brachiosaurus, though only seen for a brief stint in the first film, was completely grey and made a different sound compared to the deep rumble heard in the third film. In all reality, the only animals that did not change were the Compy's which were only seen for about 30 seconds during the film. Also, there are periods in the film where the actors try too hard, and often make it seem too obvious of that matter. In my honest opinion, I gave this a 3 1/2 star rating mainly because of the homage I owe to this film series for creating the passion I have held for these magnificent creatures since first seeng JP when I was 2 thus walking out of the theatre like a young tyrannosaur. I also added in for the fact that Sam Niel is one of my all time favorites in actors, as is Laura Dern. In my conclusion, the film is decent, but is really nothing compared to the first two films. I hope, no Pray, that the fourth film ressurects what was once the most dominant aspect in my life, though it is quickly gaining it's ground back.
    What was I thinking? ()

Forget my old review wherever the fuck it may be. I liked it way back when, but I was young and stupid. This film is crap. The Jurassic Park film series should have ended in 1997...or maybe even '93. Though, call me crazy, but I'd actually rather watch The Lost World than JP3. I'll give it one star for the decent dino action and for Sam Neill.

I went to see it on my birthday (18 July) in 2001 and I enjoyed it very much, more than the Lost World. I saw it on TV last night and it just reminded me of the good times when Jurassic Park was out and I was only 8 years old. Jurassic Park 3 is good because it's all in one - comedy, adventure, horror and what not. The dinosaurs look better, they fight with one another, and there is so much going on like the bird cage, the boat and stuff. I hope the next one wins back the hearts of the public and Jurassic Parkers so they can continue making the instalments! Imagine JP163!
    I can't find the review I wrote in 2001, so here's a new one ()

Jurassic Park III sucked. It sucked so bad that even an INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD is having a hard time surviving on it. Do you realize how fucking sad that is? There are websites with thousands of members about cartoon shows from the 1980s that were unpopular even then, yet the one and only fansite for Jurassic Park III is almost flatlining after six years. What a pathetic film, and what a pathetic bunch we all are for basking in its pitiful "glory" for the better part of a decade. Everyone here knows that this site is going to die soon, and, with it, all remnants of the Jurassic Park III fan community will be wiped from the face of internet history forever.

Fortunately, most of us hate the fucking movie, so I guess we're not complete losers.
